1X has launched a countdown page for its October 28 announcement, fueling speculation about the next steps for its domestic humanoid robot, NEO.

Palo Alto-based robotics firm 1X is building anticipation for a major announcement related to its NEO humanoid robot, set for October 28. The company released a short, cryptic teaser video across its social media channels, showing a NEO robot performing a household chore before revealing the date.

The video opens on a close-up of a vacuum cleaner and a pair of feet. As the camera pulls back, it reveals the feet belong to a NEO humanoid, which is seen vacuuming in a minimalist setting. The robot briefly looks down at its work before raising its head to look directly at the camera. The scene then cuts to a simple graphic displaying the date "10/28" followed by the URL "1X.TECH/NEO." The linked website currently features a countdown timer and a sign-up form for notifications.

Executive Hints Point to a Substantial Reveal

Company leadership has amplified the teaser, suggesting the announcement is a significant milestone. "I feel like I've been waiting for this since I was a kid," 1X CEO Bernt Børnich posted on X. "Biggest announcement yet from the 1X team on 10/28."

Dar (@radbackwards), the company's VP of design and product, added further context, hinting that the reveal is more than just a hardware update. "What's coming next is really exciting & it's not just a new design," he wrote. "Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who has supported our team as we work on bringing a generational product into the world."

What to Expect on October 28?

While the exact nature of the announcement remains under wraps, the focus on a domestic task and the executives' comments suggest a major step towards deploying NEO in real-world environments. A full commercial launch seems unlikely at this stage. Børnich has previously framed the initial consumer release as "almost more a journey than a destination," preparing early adopters for a product that will improve over time.

A more plausible scenario is the official launch of an early adopter or beta testing program. The company has long stated its intention to pilot its robots in homes by 2025 to gather crucial data for training its AI systems. This strategy aligns with 1X's development philosophy, which relies on real-world interaction—including failures—to improve its onboard AI, Redwood. Such a program would provide the massive amounts of data needed to train both its AI and its "digital twin" World Model.

This move would also capitalize on the company's recent momentum. Investor Chris Camillo recently highlighted 1X's unique, tendon-driven architecture as a key advantage for safety in homes, suggesting the company could deploy bots as early as 2026. An early adopter program would be the first concrete step in validating that thesis.

With the company reportedly seeking up to $1 billion in new funding to accelerate production and deployment, the October 28 announcement will be a closely watched event in the competitive humanoid robotics space.
