Figure Humanoids Begin Work on BMW Production Line in South Carolina
Figure AI has released video footage showing its Figure 01 humanoid robots performing tasks within BMW's manufacturing plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina. According to Figure, the deployment marks a significant step, moving the robots out of test environments and into "real production operations."

The short video clip, shared via Figure's official X account, shows a humanoid robot picking up sheet metal parts from a container and placing them onto what appears to be a conveyor or processing station. The task seems related to logistics or material handling within the factory's body shop, one of the areas initially targeted when the partnership was announced.
This deployment is the first tangible outcome shown publicly from the commercial agreement Figure signed with BMW Manufacturing in January 2024. The initial agreement outlined a phased approach, starting with identifying use cases for Figure's humanoids in automotive production processes – focusing on areas like the body shop, sheet metal handling, and warehouse operations – before proceeding to staged deployments at the Spartanburg facility.
