China's Noetix Robotics Prices 'Bumi' Humanoid Under $1,400, Targeting Consumers

Chinese robotics startup Noetix Robotics has officially entered the consumer market with the announcement of "Bumi," a humanoid robot priced aggressively at under ¥10,000, or approximately $1,370. The company is billing it as the "world’s first high-performance humanoid robot" to break this price barrier.

A Sub-$1,400 Bipedal Robot

The announcement's main draw is its price tag, which places a bipedal robot in a category typically occupied by high-end drones or laptop computers. According to Noetix, Bumi stands 94 cm tall and weighs 12 kg. The robot is reportedly capable of stable walking on two legs and performing complex movements, with the company using a dance demonstration as an example of its capabilities. It is built with lightweight composite materials and operates on a motion control system developed in-house by Noetix.

Aimed at Home and Education

Noetix is positioning Bumi for the education and home markets. A key feature intended to attract developers, students, and hobbyists is an open programming interface, designed to encourage learning and creativity with the platform.

While the actual "high-performance" capabilities of a sub-$1,400 humanoid remain to be demonstrated in real-world use, the low barrier to entry is notable. This price point sharply contrasts with other recent "affordable" platforms aimed at the research and development market, such as Booster Robotics' RoboCup-winning K1 (around $5,000) and Unitree's R1 (around $5,500). Bumi appears to be targeting a true consumer or hobbyist-level audience, rather than the university labs and corporate R&D departments targeted by its more expensive peers. The accessibility of the hardware, combined with its open interface, could spur experimentation in this nascent consumer space.

Noetix called the launch a "milestone in bringing humanoid robots from labs to everyday life". The company stated that preorders for Bumi are scheduled to open between China's Double 11 and Double 12 shopping festivals.
