Unitree Robotics is a Hangzhou-based maker of quadruped and humanoid robots and their core components, founded in 2016 by Wang Xingxing. It built its business on low-cost, high-performance robot dogs and since 2023 has become the largest bipedal humanoid producer by volume, with the G1, H1, H2 and R1 platforms, roughly 18,000 cumulative bipeds produced as of July 2026, and its own joint modules, dexterous hands and embodied AI models. It listed on the Shanghai STAR Market on 19 August 2026 under code 688836, the first pure-play humanoid robot maker on China's A-share market.

What it builds

Unitree Robotics, the trading name of 宇树科技股份有限公司 (previously Hangzhou Yushu Technology Co., Ltd.), was founded in Hangzhou in August 2016 by Wang Xingxing, who remains chairman and CEO. The company began with quadrupeds — it describes itself as the first firm to retail high-performance quadruped robots openly — and moved into bipeds with the H1 in 2023. Its current catalogue spans the G1 compact biped (roughly $16,000 and up), the lightweight R1, launched in July 2025 from 39,999 yuan (about $5,900), and the full-size H2, unveiled in October 2025 with around 31 degrees of freedom and, unusually for the line, a bionic face. Unitree also sells joint modules, dexterous hands, collaborative arms and lidar units, and in May 2026 launched GD01, an optionally manned bipedal-to-quadrupedal mecha priced from 3.9 million yuan. In August 2026 it previewed a prototype it calls "Superman," claiming 12.66 m/s running speed and a two-metre standing jump.

Vertical integration

Unitree's cost position rests on making most of its own hardware. A SemiAnalysis analysis covered by this publication put the G1's bill of materials at $8,976, with roughly 86% of the BoM produced in-house and gross margins near 60%. That structure underpinned a revenue jump from 392 million yuan in 2024 to about 1.7 billion yuan in 2025; humanoids accounted for 51.5% of revenue in the first nine months of 2025, overtaking quadrupeds. Q1 2026 net profit fell 47.7% year on year as spending rose.

Volume and market position

Unitree said it had produced roughly 18,000 bipedal humanoids cumulatively as of July 2026, a figure it pointedly limits to legged machines. It shipped more than 5,500 humanoids and 33,000 quadrupeds in 2025. Counterpoint Research put its first-half 2026 humanoid shipments above 7,000 units, or 31.1% of the global market, second to AGIBOT's 9,700. Its hardware is also a research standard: the G1 was the platform for the 500-hour HIW-500 home teleoperation dataset released with BitRobot and Hugging Face.

Listing and ownership

Unitree filed for a STAR Market IPO on 20 March 2026, cleared the listing committee in 73 days and completed registration in 104 days — a record pace for the board. It sold 40.45 million shares at 150.80 yuan, raising 6.1 billion yuan ($904 million), and listed on 19 August 2026 under code 688836 as mainland China's first listed pure-play humanoid maker. Shares opened at 1,100 yuan, up 629%, and closed at 845 yuan, valuing the company near $50 billion. Wang holds 34.76% of equity and 68.78% of votes; Meituan-affiliated vehicles are the largest external bloc at about 9.65%, and DeepSeek took 2.31% via a 140.8 million yuan strategic investment tied to joint work on embodied AI models.

Constraints

Unitree's export path narrowed in July 2026, when the Trump administration directed the FCC to bar imports of new Chinese humanoid and quadruped robots. At the 2026 World Robot Conference, Wang said the company has held back from large-scale factory deployment because throughput lags human workers and each new task requires retraining.
