What it builds

X Square Robot (自变量机器人) is a Shenzhen company founded in December 2023 that develops end-to-end embodied foundation models together with the wheeled, dual-arm robots that run them. Its model line is branded GreatWall: WALL-A, the in-house manipulation model; WALL-OSS, an open-source vision-language-action model published in September 2025 alongside the Quanta X2 robot and updated as Wall-OSS-0.5 in May 2026; and WALL-B, announced in April 2026 as the first implementation of what the company calls a World Unified Model, in which perception, language, action and physical prediction are trained jointly in one network rather than as separate modules. Robot bodies — the Quanta X1 and X2 wheeled humanoids — are designed in-house, and the company describes its stack as covering data collection, models, core components and hardware.

Data as the constraint

Much of the company's public technical argument concerns data rather than model size. It operates its own data-collection facility and builds its own capture rigs, including leader-follower teleoperation systems, exoskeletons and robot-free handheld devices such as the XRZero dual-gripper UMI-style rig, with trajectories replayed on real robots as a quality filter. In September 2026 it unveiled TwinDEX, a three-finger, nine-DoF exoskeleton kinematically matched to a robot end effector so that human demonstrations transfer without retargeting. A month earlier, an uncut one-hour livestream had the system sort 1,816 parcels with simple grippers instead of five-fingered hands, a deliberate cost-and-throughput trade-off.

Funding

The company has raised repeatedly and quickly. Meituan led an early A round; Alibaba Cloud led a roughly $100 million A+ in September 2025; ByteDance and HongShan led a RMB 1 billion (about $140 million) A++ announced on 12 January 2026; and Xiaomi's strategic investment arm and HongShan co-led a Series B of nearly RMB 2 billion in April 2026. In late June 2026 the company said B+, B++ and Series C rounds had closed within roughly two months, with participants including China Mobile, the National AI Industry Investment Fund, IDG Capital and CICC Capital, putting post-money valuation above RMB 20 billion, or more than $2.8 billion. Chinese outlets note it is the only domestic embodied-AI firm backed separately by ByteDance, Meituan, Alibaba and Xiaomi.

Commercial position

COO Yang Qian told CNBC in September 2025 that the company was already generating revenue from sales to schools, hotels and retirement homes, and that robot AI remained well behind text-generation AI. The April 2026 WALL-B launch was paired with a plan to place robots in real households within weeks, an unusually compressed timeline for domestic deployment; the company has also formed a home-services joint venture with custom-furniture maker Holike. At the World Robot Conference in Beijing in August 2026 it demonstrated the same model across logistics and household tasks under a "one model, many applications" framing.

Its closest comparisons are the foundation-model-first developers — Physical Intelligence and Skild AI abroad, Galbot and Spirit AI at home — rather than the hardware-led humanoid makers, though its logistics livestream invited direct comparison with Figure AI's endurance runs.
