Origins and approach
LimX Dynamics was incorporated in Shenzhen on 4 January 2022 by Wei Zhang, a tenured professor at the Southern University of Science and Technology who previously held a tenured post at Ohio State University and took his doctorate at Purdue. Zhang Li, formerly chief operating officer of autonomous driving company WeRide, joined as co-founder and COO in late 2023, alongside chief scientist Jia Pan. The company describes its work as resting on three pillars: robot body hardware design and manufacturing, "brain-cerebellum fusion" motion control, and an embodied agentic operating system, LimX COSA.
The hardware line began with legged research platforms, including the TRON 1 biped and a wheeled quadruped, before moving to full-size humanoids. The CL-series prototypes shown in 2023 and 2024 became LimX Oli, launched in July 2025 at 165 cm with 31 active degrees of freedom in its base configuration, plus higher-DoF EDU and Super variants. Much of Oli's early visibility came from capability demonstrations rather than deployments: autonomously locating and picking up a tennis ball, then voice control and stumble recovery on loose construction debris.
Products and software
In December 2025 LimX launched TRON 2, a platform that can be rebuilt as a biped, a wheeled-legged robot or a stationary dual-arm manipulator, sold to research and education buyers at roughly $25,000. COSA, the company's agentic operating system, was released in January 2026. Luna, a 160 cm interactive humanoid aimed at retail and live events, debuted at the Taobao Influencer Festival in March 2026 and was detailed in May at RMB 298,000. The company says Luna reached customers in China and abroad within a month of its launch.
Funding and traction
LimX raised a $200 million Series B in February 2026 from backers including Stone Venture, Oriental Fortune Capital, CoStone Capital, JD.com, SAIC's Shangqi Capital and NIO Capital, after an A-series totalling about RMB 500 million that drew Alibaba, Lenovo Capital and China Merchants Capital. A nearly $200 million pre-IPO round closed in July 2026 at a post-money valuation of RMB 15 billion, about $2.21 billion, with IDG Capital, Lens Technology, GGG Group, Redstone VC and Huashan Capital among the new investors. Zhang said overseas capital accounted for more than 70% of that round. The company completed a joint-stock restructuring in March 2026 and its founder has told reporters that listing is "a must", though no public filing has been identified and Hong Kong has been named as the likely venue only by unnamed sources. LimX puts cumulative orders across its product lines in the thousands, more than half from outside China, and has outlined a multi-year plan to ship humanoids to Middle East customers.
Position in the market
LimX competes in a crowded Chinese field that includes Unitree, UBTECH and AgiBot, but its revenue base so far leans on research and education hardware, performance and retail robots, and integration partnerships rather than factory fleets. A September 2026 proof-of-concept with ZINOVA Labs and RIC Robotics mounted TRON 2 torsos on heavy industrial arms to assemble formwork and tie rebar — work that still depended on teleoperation and human oversight, a fair marker of how far the company's industrial autonomy has actually got.
