Deep Robotics Targets Industrial Work with All-Weather Humanoid

Hangzhou-based robotics firm Deep Robotics has unveiled the DR02, a new humanoid robot designed specifically for continuous operation in challenging industrial and outdoor environments. The company highlights the robot’s IP66 waterproof and dustproof rating and a wide operational temperature range as key features that set it apart in the growing field of humanoid robotics.

The central claim for the DR02 is its durability. With an IP66 rating, the robot is protected against powerful water jets and is fully dust-tight, allowing it to function in rainy, humid, or dusty conditions. Combined with an operating temperature range of -20°C to 55°C, Deep Robotics is positioning the DR02 for scenarios that have traditionally been off-limits for sophisticated electronics, such as outdoor site inspections, cold storage logistics, and high-temperature workshops.

Designed for Human Spaces

Standing at 175cm tall, the DR02 is built to integrate into existing human workspaces. It features a dual-arm design with a 10kg payload capacity per arm and can carry a total of 20kg. The robot demonstrates stable locomotion, with a walking speed of 1.5 m/s and the ability to navigate stairs and slopes up to 20 degrees. These capabilities are powered by an onboard computing system rated at 275 TOPS (trillions of operations per second) and a suite of perception sensors.

To address the practical challenges of maintenance in industrial settings, Deep Robotics has also incorporated a modular, quick-detach design for core components like arms and legs. This approach aims to minimize downtime and simplify repairs, a crucial factor for ensuring long-term operational value.

From Four Legs to Two

Deep Robotics is not a new player in the robotics space. The company, founded in 2017, established its reputation with a series of rugged quadruped robots, notably the "Jueying" line, which has been deployed for industrial inspection tasks. The company’s focus on all-weather operation was previously seen in its Jueying X30 quadruped, which also featured a similar wide temperature tolerance. The announcement of the DR02 follows the demonstration of its first humanoid prototype, the DR01, in August 2024, signaling a rapid development cycle and a clear strategic expansion into bipedal platforms.

While the specifications are notable, the true test for the DR02 will be its performance in real-world pilot programs and its adoption rate by industrial clients. Key details regarding its autonomy, battery life, and cost remain undisclosed. However, by focusing on environmental resilience, Deep Robotics is addressing a critical barrier to the broader deployment of humanoid robots, moving the conversation from mobility demonstrations to practical, all-weather utility.
