Houston-based robotics firm Persona AI is accelerating its timeline for international deployment. According to a recent social media update from CEO Nicolaus Radford, the company’s humanoids are officially "on the ground in Korea" to begin early integration work.
The arrival of the hardware sets the stage for the company's anticipated Gen 3 deliveries, which Radford noted are scheduled for the end of the year. Accompanying the announcement was an image showing several large, crated units loaded into a transport truck, signaling a tangible move toward commercial integration. The deployment to South Korea aligns closely with the company’s high-profile partnership with HD Hyundai, aimed at bringing bipedal welding robots to the country's massive shipbuilding sector.

The "First Spark" Milestone
The arrival of hardware in Korea builds upon foundational testing conducted earlier this summer. On July 10, Persona AI published a blog post titled "First Spark: Hand on the Torch," detailing a critical proof-of-concept deployment at ARC Specialties in Houston, Texas.
Operating in a live, hot-work industrial environment, the company's engineering and operations teams successfully directed a Gen 1 humanoid to execute a functional weld. Crucially, the robot performed the task off-gantry, without the aid of safety tethers or supporting wires. The demonstration captured a continuous sequence where the bipedal machine lowered into a squat, maintained a steady arc to lay down a weld path, stood completely back up under its own power, and delivered a celebratory fist bump.

Executing a weld requires high spatial awareness and real-time retargeting of motion inputs, pushing well beyond basic material handling. By proving the Gen 1 platform can handle this entire sequence in an unstructured environment, Persona AI successfully validated its core actuation and kinematics.
Teleoperation as the Bridge to Autonomy
While the physical movement was executed by the robot, the intelligence behind the July demonstration was strictly human. The weld was performed via expert teleoperation, with an engineer guiding the robot in real-time using a VR headset interface.
This teleoperation is not merely a parlor trick; it is the bedrock of Persona AI's data collection strategy. Every second of teleoperated movement in a live environment like ARC Specialties is captured to train the company's neural networks. This ground-truth demonstration data is a prerequisite for achieving fully autonomous welding operations in the future.
The field test also offered a glimpse into the environmental constraints the hardware will face. The engineering team utilized specialized camera lens filters to protect the robot's vision sensors from intense arc flashes. Additionally, the human operators suited up in heavy-duty leather jackets and insulated gear, deliberately emulating the physical constraints and harsh conditions the robots are designed to eventually endure in environments like steel mills and shipyards.
Scaling Up for the End of the Year
For a startup that is barely two years old, achieving functional off-gantry manipulation in an active welding lab—and subsequently shipping hardware internationally for integration—demonstrates significant development velocity.
Backed by a $27 million pre-seed round and spearheaded by manufacturing executives like former Amazon Robotics leader Brian Davis, Persona AI is aggressively pushing out of the laboratory phase. If the early integration work in Korea successfully paves the way for Gen 3 deliveries by year's end, the company may be on the verge of turning its heavy-industry prototypes into a commercial workforce.
