  • Persona AI CEO Nicolaus Radford shared video footage of the company's Gen 1 humanoid walking outside its Houston, Texas offices.
  • The bipedal robot was seen navigating a public outdoor space while testing new specialized treads developed by Under Armour.
  • The public stroll follows the company's recently announced R&D partnership focused on industrial performance gear.
  • Radford also teased that a Gen 2 humanoid launch is officially on the horizon.

While most humanoid robots spend their early days confined to pristine, climate-controlled laboratories, Houston-based Persona AI decided it was time to let its hardware stretch its legs in the real world.

In a video posted on social media, Persona AI CEO Nicolaus Radford revealed footage of the company’s Gen 1 humanoid taking a casual stroll right outside their corporate offices. Navigating a brick pathway past outdoor diners at a local spot called Late August, the bipedal machine gave onlookers a literal glimpse into the future of automated labor.

Testing Out the New Treads

The public walk wasn't just for show. According to Radford, the robot was braving the intense Houston heat to test out a brand-new set of footwear: specialized treads developed by athletic apparel giant Under Armour.

This outdoor test serves as the first real-world glimpse of the formal R&D collaboration between the two companies. As reported last month, Persona AI and Under Armour partnered to develop "Performance Gear" for humanoids, focusing on elements like thermal regulation, durability, and specialized traction.

While that partnership is primarily aimed at protecting heavy-industry humanoids working in punishing environments like steel mills and shipyards, testing the robot's physical components on blazing-hot Texas pavement offers excellent baseline data for thermal resilience and real-world traction.

Gen 2 is on the Horizon

Seeing a full-scale American humanoid walking down a public street is significant enough on its own, but Radford closed out his announcement with an even bigger hook for robotics enthusiasts: "Also stay tuned for our upcoming Gen 2 launch!"

The transition to a next-generation platform comes at a busy time for the Houston startup. Backed by a $27 million pre-seed round, the company has spent the last year aggressively scaling up. They have already locked down a massive production partnership with HD Hyundai to commercialize bipedal welding robots, and brought on a former Amazon Robotics executive to head global manufacturing.

If the Gen 1 platform is already sturdy enough to handle public outdoor environments and heavy-duty industrial tests, the upcoming Gen 2 unit could mark a major leap forward as Persona AI prepares to deploy its fleet into commercial workspaces.
