Giga Texas Site Prep for 10-Million-Unit Optimus Factory Reportedly Underway

Site preparation appears to be underway at Tesla's Giga Texas campus for what is believed to be the company's massive, 10-million-unit-per-year Optimus humanoid robot factory. The activity, first detailed in a video report by Giga Texas drone operator Joe Tegtmeyer, represents the first physical groundwork for the ambitious production plans CEO Elon Musk outlined at the company's recent shareholder meeting.

During that meeting, Musk confirmed a two-pronged production strategy: "starting with building a million unit production line in Fremont... and then a 10 million unit per year production line here on the giga [Texas campus]."

Tegtmeyer's new drone footage shows significant earthwork and land clearing in an "east support area" of the sprawling facility, a location distinct from the previously announced "Riverfront Echo Park" development.

From Earthwork to Robots

The drone footage and analysis from Tegtmeyer indicate that the work is more than just clearing land. The report details active utility installation, including:

  • Trenching and installation of "trench boxes"
  • Laying of plumbing and electrical conduit
  • Installation of storm water drainage pipes
  • A new permit for a private wastewater and reclaimed water system on the east side

"The big news... is that a brand new factory is now under construction here on the east side of Giga Texas," Tegtmeyer concluded in his video report. "And it will be dedicated to the Optimus robot production."

This new factory is slated to handle the project's enormous scale, which Musk has stated is one of its three greatest difficulties, along with engineering the hands and developing real-world AI.

A 'Completely Different' Factory

This new construction in Texas is separate from the company's current activities in California. Tesla is already operating a prototype production line in Fremont to support its R&D efforts. However, project AI lead Julian Ibarz recently clarified that the "real scalable production line... will be completely different".

The Fremont line is believed to be focused on building the next-generation "V3" prototypes, which are slated for a Q1 2026 reveal. The V3 is considered the "production-intent prototype" that the new Giga Texas factory will ultimately be designed to mass-produce.

According to Tegtmeyer's report, the 10-million-unit Texas factory is "scheduled to go into production in 2027." This timeline suggests that major construction will take place throughout 2026, aligning with the current utility and foundation preparations now visible on the site.
