EngineAI is moving from viral marketing and high-profile stunts to a formalized global competition. On April 3, 2026, the Shenzhen-based robotics startup officially opened registration for the Ultimate Robot Knock-out Legend (URKL), billed as the world’s first commercialized humanoid robot combat league.
The league aims to do for humanoid robotics what Formula 1 did for the automotive industry: accelerate research and development through high-stakes, real-world competition. By providing a standardized hardware platform, EngineAI is shifting the focus from mechanical destruction to the "embodied intelligence" software that will define the next generation of automation.

The T800: A Unified Proving Ground
Unlike wheeled robot combat sports that favor destructive modifications, URKL is built on a foundation of technical parity. All participating teams will utilize the T800 full-size humanoid robot, independently developed by EngineAI, as the unified competition platform. The T800, which officially debuted at CES 2026, features 29 degrees of freedom and a peak joint torque of 450 N·m, providing the dynamic stability required for martial arts maneuvers.
The competition follows a "standardized hardware + differentiated algorithms" model. Teams are strictly prohibited from making "violent modifications." Instead, they are encouraged to innovate in the following areas:
- Motion Control and Balance Algorithms: Ensuring the robot remains upright and agile under impact.
- Perception and Decision-Making: Autonomous or semi-autonomous navigation and tactical choices during a match.
- Structural Protection: Developing innovative, non-destructive solutions to shield internal components.
This approach is designed to validate the same balance and motion control systems EngineAI plans to use for its future industrial and domestic service bots.
A High-Stakes Tournament Structure
The URKL league is open to universities, private enterprises, and research institutions worldwide. Following a preliminary screening process, 16 teams will be selected to advance to the main competition.
The tournament timeline is as follows:
- Online Registration: March 1 to April 30, 2026.
- Online Qualification Round: Throughout April 2026.
- On-Site Preliminary Round: May to July 2026.
- Round of 16 & Quarter-Finals: October to November 2026.
- Grand Final: December 2026 to January 2027.
Matches will follow a "Best-of-Three" (BO3) format, with each round consisting of five minutes of net competition time. To maintain the focus on autonomy, robots have 10 seconds to stand up after a knockdown without penalty. Failure to do so requires a "manual reset," of which only two are permitted per match.
Million-Dollar Stakes and Career Incentives
EngineAI has detailed a highly rewarding incentive system to attract top-tier global talent. The headline prize for the champion is a solid gold championship belt weighing 10 kilograms and valued at approximately $1.45 million (10 million RMB).
Beyond the gold belt, the prize pool includes:
- 2nd Place: A precious metal medal valued at $290,000.
- 3rd Place: A precious metal medal valued at $145,000.
- 4th Place: $29,000 plus one limited-edition T800 unit.
- Top 16 Reward: Every team that reaches the Round of 16 will receive ownership of one T800 unit to support further research.
Perhaps most notably for aspiring engineers, all members of the Top 8 teams will receive access to a "fast-track" recruitment program at EngineAI, advancing directly to final interviews with priority hiring consideration.

More Than Just Sport
While leagues like the US-based REK and UFB have focused on human-in-the-loop VR control, URKL is positioning itself as a "proving ground" for the practical deployment of physical AI. By forcing robots to manage their own power—battery swaps are prohibited during rounds—and maintain balance under stress, EngineAI is stress-testing hardware that it recently made available for pre-order at $25,000.
