The Robot in the Box: 1X Teases NEO Delivery Logistics as Humanoid Production War Heats Up

- 1X CEO Bernt Børnich shared visuals of a NEO humanoid sitting inside a specialized delivery capsule, teasing a major announcement for tomorrow.
- The teasers emphasize the "consumer product" aspect of 1X, focusing on the logistics and "accessories" required for home deployment.
- The timing coincides with rival Figure’s announcement that it has achieved a production rate of one robot per hour.
- 1X leadership continues to defend its in-house, American-made actuator technology as the "cheapest and most performant" in the industry.

The race to put a humanoid in every home is moving from the laboratory to the shipping dock. Following a series of cryptic social media posts, 1X Technologies appears poised to reveal the final logistics of its consumer rollout for the NEO humanoid.
On Wednesday, 1X CEO Bernt Børnich shared a video of the company’s flagship robot seated inside a sleek, rounded delivery container. "Robot abundance, one NEO at a time," Børnich wrote. "More tomorrow." The teaser follows a mysterious Instagram post featuring tomorrow's date, suggesting that the company is ready to detail how the $20,000 android will transition from a pre-order reservation to a physical arrival at a customer's home.
"Engineering to Extreme Limits"
While much of the industry remains focused on demos and product launches, 1X is increasingly leaning into the "unboxing" and ownership experience. Dar Sleeper, 1X’s Head of Design, noted that transforming a complex machine into a viable consumer product requires solving a different set of engineering challenges.
"Making humanoids is one thing," Sleeper stated. "Making a humanoid into a consumer product takes engineering to extreme limits." According to Sleeper, 1X has spent considerable effort designing "beautiful accessories and features" to answer the practical question of how a 66-pound robot safely shows up at a user's door.
This focus on the consumer experience aligns with 1X’s long-standing strategy of positioning NEO as a "companion" rather than a piece of industrial equipment. Unlike the rigid, metallic frames of many competitors, NEO features a "soft body" design and a tendon-driven anatomy that 1X claims makes it "meaningfully safer" for domestic environments.
The Production Arms Race
The timing of 1X’s teaser is interesting. Earlier today, domestic rival Figure announced a major manufacturing milestone, claiming its BotQ facility in California has scaled to produce one Figure 03 robot per hour. While Figure is currently focusing its massive fleet on industrial data collection and 24/7 autonomous warehouse operations , 1X remains committed to its 2026 delivery window for home users.
1X leadership also used the moment to double down on their hardware philosophy. Earlier this week, Sleeper addressed industry concerns regarding the domestic supply chain for robotics, claiming that 1X’s in-house American manufacturing of actuators provides them with a significant edge.
"1X has the cheapest and most performant actuators in the world by orders of magnitude," Sleeper claimed, noting that the company handles the manufacturing of these critical components in-house. Børnich corroborated the sentiment, highlighting the company’s vertical integration as a key pillar of its ability to achieve "robot abundance."
What to Expect Tomorrow
The upcoming announcement could possibly involve a finalized delivery timeline.
1X has previously stated that its human-in-the-loop strategy relies on the first consumer units to act as "data collection engines".
Check back tomorrow for our full coverage of the reveal.
