What the company builds
Apptronik develops Apollo, a general-purpose humanoid robot aimed at logistics, manufacturing and retail work. The company grew out of the University of Texas at Austin's Human Centered Robotics Lab and describes Apollo as the product of nearly a decade of iteration across more than 15 earlier robot systems, including work on NASA's Valkyrie humanoid. Its engineering identity rests on in-house actuators and full-body control rather than on a novel end-effector or a proprietary foundation model; the company markets Apollo for tasks such as case picking, palletizing, trailer unloading, kitting and machine tending in facilities built for people.
Apollo 2, Robot Park, and what comes next
On 30 June 2026 Apptronik opened an expanded Robot Park in Austin, a 90,000-square-foot data collection and training facility that anchors a network of similar sites at customer and partner locations. Alongside it the company formally presented Apollo 2 in bipedal and wheeled-base configurations, positioning the fleet as a continuous data-gathering apparatus feeding AI models developed with Google DeepMind. Humanoids Daily reported the Apollo 2 page appearing on the company's website two days earlier, without a press release — consistent with the "substance over hype" line CEO Jeff Cardenas has repeated in interviews with this publication and others. Forbes reported that at the same event Cardenas teased Apollo 3 for next year and framed it as the company's first true product, with Apollo 2 still a pre-product platform. Apollo has also served as a hardware target for Google DeepMind's Gemini Robotics models, including the whole-body control work in Gemini Robotics 2.
Capital and commercial footing
Apptronik closed a $520 million Series A-X extension on 11 February 2026, taking Series A financing past $935 million and lifetime capital, by the company's own description, to nearly $1 billion. Repeat backers B Capital, Google, Mercedes-Benz and PEAK6 were joined by AT&T Ventures, John Deere and the Qatar Investment Authority. Valuation reporting diverged on the day: CNBC put it at $5 billion, Bloomberg at more than $5.5 billion. Reuters reported headcount above 300 at the time, with plans for a California office. Commercially, Apollo has run in pilots with Mercedes-Benz and GXO Logistics, and a 2025 collaboration with Jabil covers both contract manufacturing of Apollo and deployment inside Jabil's own lines. In June 2025 the company spun up Elevate Robotics, a wholly owned subsidiary led by Paul Hvass targeting heavy-duty industrial automation outside the humanoid form factor.
Leadership and position
Cardenas remains CEO and co-founder; Nick Paine is co-founder and CTO. In April 2026 the company hired Daniel Chu, formerly of Waymo and 23andMe, as chief product officer, part of a bench-building exercise drawing on Boston Dynamics and Amazon and explicitly tied to a longer-term ambition in assistive and eldercare.
Against Figure, 1X, Agility Robotics, Tesla and Unitree, Apptronik's differentiators are its Google relationship, an automotive and 3PL customer base acquired early, and a slower public cadence. The open question is the one Cardenas himself framed at Robot Park: Apollo 2 is a data engine, not yet a product, and the commercial case rests on a machine that has not shipped.
